Three minutes is the standard length of a boxing round and a good steep for most black teas. Start the timer when the water hits the leaves or the bell rings, and the large countdown keeps you on track without checking your phone clock. A bell sounds at zero so you can pull the tea bag or step back to your corner.

Ways to use this timer

  • Steeping black tea for three to four minutes
  • Shadowboxing or bag work in three-minute rounds
  • Short student presentations with a firm time limit

Questions

How long should black tea steep?

Most black teas taste best after three to five minutes. Start with three, and try the 4 or 5 minute timer if you prefer it stronger.

Can I time multiple boxing rounds with rest?

This page times a single three-minute round. For rounds with rest periods in between, set up the interval timer with a 3 minute work phase.
